Lisa it sounds like the belt has jammed or you have a problem with the motor. You will have to leave it unplugged for a while before the thermal cut-out on the motor will reset itself. I would first check to see if the brush roller moves by hand;if it doesn't then you need to find out why. The other possibilty is that the motor has got very hot and is starting to melt the rubber around the motor itself. If this is the case then the motor may need replacing. You will also need to check the plug fuse if it still won't switch on.
