freelander immobiliser?

i seem to have problems getting my 2001 freelander to start
the battery is fine, but there has been problems with the alarm and i am wondering if the immobiliser is staying on , when i turn the key all instruments light up ok but there isnt even a click.

Just had same problem. Parked Freelander (petrol 1999) on drive went back to it 10 mins later, central locking inop. no ignition and red immob. light on in dash. Read every thread/forum on the web looking for answers but they all sounded rather expensive. asked an 'old timer' and he said that on the old Rovers the trick was to undo the pos. terminal from battery and touch it back on a few time as this sometimes shocked the imob. back into life. I tried this and it worked. just need to remember to always carry a 13mm spanner with me!

Hi Did you find an answer to this fault as my 2000 diesel freelander has just done the same also the lock/unlock switch has stoped working along with the rear screen raise/lower switch at the same time

I read something about having too many keys on the key chain. They somehow interfere with the immobilizer system. (Affect the effect of the magnet on the piece that is in the steering column???) Anyway, I removed all of the keys from my keychain except the Freelander key and have not had a problem.

Dont know if this will help . but I had a similar problem on my 2000 Freelander . some times it would start and sometimes not, very frustrating . when it would,nt start exact symptoms as yours , everything on, turn key to start position nothing happens zilch . problem traced to red wire that goes to base of starter motor corroded so no feed to starter motor and no feedback to ignition . solution clean terminal of this offending wire and tighten up spade connection with pliers to give better connection . Go careful when cleaning this treminal cos if you are cleaning this with say a small wire brush and touch other terminals in vacinity causes a few sparks . Best use a bit of emery cloth .
