Hi Toni - There are jumpers on the back of the hard drive next to the connection where the ribbon cable attaches. If you look at each drive there is usually a diagram on the front of the drive that shows the various positions - there are three normal ones (M) Master (S) Slave and (CS) Cable Select. Set your 40gb drive to be the MASTER and the 80gm drive to be the slave. the master should be the last drive on the ribbon cable and the slave the middle one. Now when you boot the 40 will be your C: drive and the 80 will be assigned the next available number. Hope this helps. If you run into problems feel free to email me (shopbruce@gmail.com) and possible I can help you further. Good Luck!

Hi when t says jumpered he means the jumper switch settings. On the back of the hard drive next to where you plug the IDE cable and power cable in there are a set of small brass pins with one or two small black plastic covered "joiners" pushed down over some of them making certain connections, these are the jumpers. the settings may be printed on the housing of the hard drive if your lucky, if not hunt them down on tut internet. Also its better to have your boot drive on the end of the IDE cable and the slave on the connector in the middle, that's if they are sharing a cable.
hope that's of help.

Check that the 80 GB drive is juimpered to Slave. Check the BIOS settings on the PC that drive 0 is first in the boot sequence.
