my vax rapide classic wont suck up water?

my vax rapide wets the floor but wont suck the water up again

I fixed mine by taking the spongey filter out and washing it through. Then, important step, dry it with a hairdryer and test the direction of air flow by putting the dryer up close to it and feeling if it comes out the bottom. For me, only one way worked, and I put it back that way into the head, and hey presto, full suction back again! Thank goodness.
