how can i open sliding door on my ford transit 2001?

I had the same problem with my side door,I used a screwdriver between the metal runner and the ball catch on the door whilst pulling on the handle,after a few tries i managed to release the catch and the door opened.I used this technique a few times and now the door opens as normal every time...
