Hi sound like carburettor not valve timing its is getting to much fuel or not enough, valve timing is set and can not be change unless engine is striped as it works from gears hope this helps any problems or if you require anything contact me via my website Quince www.swalelawnmowerandlandscapingservices.co.uk

I think you'll see that the valve timing is set and not adjustable - there are punch marks on both the crankshaft and camshaft gears that you line up when rebuilding the engine. Single cylinder engines can prove difficult to start when hot, but try full throttle when you crank - and then just applying the choke momentarily. With a bit of luck it will go.
