Dyson DC01 Absolute?

Hi My DC01 made a noise and switched off. No power. After leaving it a while, power came back. All ok we thought. Next time round--no power again. Still no power, even after checking and changing the fuse in the plug.Hoover is not full with dirt. Any ideas welcome! Thank you.

Brilliant, this just worked a treat for me! Thanks SteveD. The neutral cable had split 2-3" into the cable body. really easy 10min fix, and saved £££ compared with a repair shop.

I had the same problem - DC01 just cut out when my wife was using it. Replaced fuse and still no luck. Followed instructions provided by Steve D - live wire was broken. Pulled a few inches of cable through and reconnected the live and neutral cables, put it all back together again and plugged it in. Working like a dream. This quick fix has saved us a fortune in time/money/hassle of taking it in to a repairer. Thanks!

Check the filters. If they're clogged up then the motor will overheat and cut out. But your problem seems to be the common broken cable. Either the live or neutral wire breaks where it enters the vacuums' body.
UNPLUG THE MACHINE FROM THE MAINS.
Take off the dust box, and remove the top section. Just keep lifting upwards it will clip off its pivots. You'll see a torx screw holding a little panel. Remove that panel to reveal the cable and switch.
Remove another torx screw clamping the cable.
Press and release the on/off button.
The on/off switch should pull out now. Pull off the cable terminal, then slacken the screw in the terminal block and remove the neutral wire. Pull the cable out of the machine.
Holding the cable in one hand and very firmly pulling on the live and neutral wires individually in turn should reveal the broken conductor.
