My dog chewed through my $100 Bose earbud wires. Arrgh! I tried splicing them together, copper to copper, red to red and blue to blue but it didn't work. What am I missing? And can anyone give me a step by step (with pictures if possible) of the repair process.
The little wires are covered in an enamel coating so they don't need to be sheathed seperately (makes for a thinner cord). You have to get that enamel off to make a connection. The hard way to remove it is to scrape it off gently with a razor blade. The easy way is to burn it off with a match (be careful not to get the wire too hot - it could break or even melt), then wipe off with a cloth or the edge of a fingernail. You should now be able to make a connection.
