After replacing the cmos battery on my Samsung VM8000 I cannot get it start?

On a Samsung VM8000, after replacing the cmos battery the laptop will not start. When pressing the power button, the fun rotates for about 3 seconds and then powers off. Can anyone please help

the cmos may need resetting to factory defaults, the manual should explain how to do this.
