speedfight not starting?

i've just bought a 1999 speedfight and it wont start. it was sitting about for a year or so before hand. it is getting fuel into the carbs and it is sparking at the plug, any ideas what to do? is there an immobiliser on these things that could be causing it? cheers

hi steve, i was just reading through yours again an i see you aren't getting fuel to your plug. i've limited knowledge about these things but if your fuel tap is the same as mine, it opens with vacuum. check the pipe has no cracks in it, it comes from the inlet manifold to the front of the carb. if you take the other pipe off at the carb side and hit the starter you should have fuel comin out the pipe, if not then your tap is faulty. if you do and your plug is still dry then your into the carb itself, be careful taking that apart. on another note i got mine goin like a clock by putting new gaskets on and a new plug in. the plug made a big difference to the starting problem

Same problem as Alan, I believe mine is due to lack of compression. If you sort it or find anything else out that might help PM/Email me Please. You could try the Peugeot club @
http://www.pug-club.co.uk

My Speedy 2 100cc is on a X Reg (2000) with 4000 miles.

I was riding home (30 Mile journey) when it cut out and died completly, I left it 10 -15 mins and it started ok, got home left it 4 maybe 2 days then it wouldn't start again.

All electrics work, It turns over, Theres a spark (But the plug was dry so I thought "No Fuel"), The fuel tap works, the carb is clean and jets and float are ok.

So now I've checked the tap, fuel line to carb & carb. So I'm out of ideas what to check next. When I put the carb back on I'll check for compression(With my finger, Hee Hee. I don't have a compression checking tool!)

But even with my limited knowledge of scooters isn't that all I need? Fuel compression & ignition?? I've been told by the dealers they'll have to have a look but to be honest I can't afford it.

I think it could be the Immoboliser but I'm not getting the flashing LED & I am getting a spark so I really don't know. Any suggestions?

I know how most immobolisers work, They basically break the Ignition circuit and/or the fuel pump circuit.

What I wanted to know is what systems does the immoboliser disable. Because with mine It turns over,(Ignition circuit working) And there's no fuel pump to disable. So does is inhibit the coil/ CDi so you don't get a spark? I have a spark.

Thanks in advance for any help it would be REALLY appreciated.

Ps. I have the manual for it but its not that cracking really, I'm fairly good mechanically, & I'm pretty good with electronics.

hi, thanks for that, i put my hand over the exhaust and turned the engine over and i heard the compression leaking out the exhaust, i'm not sure that should happen so i took the head off and found there was no gasket fitted, i,ve bought a haynes manual off e bay and im waiting for that as well as a gasket set, i still have to take the barrel off an have a look at the piston, i think my problem is compression so i might as well strip it an put a set of rings on too

The immoboliser shouldn't be the fault as youve said that youre getting fuel to the plug, So you engine is turning over.

I have the Workshop Manual for that bike, It includes loads of fault finding help, Pictures, Part lists & wiring diagrams etc. If you would like a copy email me @ slippery.steve@ntlworld.com

Or look at the small guide I posted @ http://www.howtomendit.com/answers.php?id=143363

Best of luck!
