1995 Yamaha Waveventure quit running?

I just bought this and took it out for a test run, it hadn't been in the water for over a year, it ran fine for about a 1/2 hour (Top speed 51 MPH) then all of a sudden it lost power, engine quit, re-started but wouldn't go over 6 MPH, half throttle, full throttle, it didn't matter RPM's wouldn't come up, then after about 5 mins I was back to full power, it ran fine for about 15 mins then quit again, this time it wouldn't re-start, engine just spins over...So I got a tow back to the dock & started running some basic checks, Plugs were dry, light brown/tan apearance,
Had good spark, seemed to have good compression, fuel filter was still full. When the engine quit it felt like it ran out of fuel, even though the fuel filter was full, could the fuel pump have failed? Any sugestions on where to start checking? This is a 700cc engine....Thanks, T.J.

I just finished repairing a WVT700T with similar problems. Old gas, get it out. Put fresh plugs and about 5 gal. gas with 8 oz. Seafoam carb cleaner and run it until it runs out of gas. If it works you will have WOT speed just as you get to the reserve level. I actually ran 12 gal. with Seafoam just to be sure and it is running like new. It cleaned out the jets. But... with my XL1200 the problem with similar symptoms was clogged hoses - sand in the exhaust system. If this is your problem the symptom shows up as a split hose leaving the exhaust manifold just after the firewall. The exhaust gases are too hot. Then disassemble the exhaust manifold and clear out the jackets and all the small hoses. Good Luck.

Our Yamaha Waveventure did the same thing. We had all of the fuel drained and found water in the bottom of the tank. Fresh gas was put in and a brand new battery was installed. Even though we had a year old battery, the mechanic said it was not the commercial type needed for the Yamaha. We were also over filling the oil. It runs great now. You may need to one or all of these things.

We have been chasing this issue for years. I found the solution one day by accident during some routine checking of systems. Under the main seat, at the rear of the engine is a black electrical box. Inside the box, is a fuse holder. The fuse holder has started to lose connection between the fuse and holder, thus the loss of engine function. The heat is based on the expansion of the fuse holder when the engine compartment comes up to temperature.

This has happened several times. While you are floating, just lift up the seat pull the fuse, blown in the holder, and reassembly. It will get you running, ...but do not forget to replace the fuse holder.

Check your fuel quality if you didn't put new fuel in it since it was setting for several months. Check the fuel bowls for gum substance in carb fuel bowls. This gum can clog small orfices in the carb and effect fuel flow.

My 95 waverunner did the same thing. The gas got low and all I did was put the reserve on. I felt dumb but that was it.
