THANKYOU !! to G.Thompson....I have a 2002 crv took the disk out to have a look at the details and when i put it back in it said 'reading an error on the disk'. I went to PCWORLD bought ALLSOP Lens Cleaner disk' and put it in. After the third time I left the disk cleaning for about 4 minuites. (!st and 2nd time was only 15 seconds). Then when i put the Honda sat nav DVD back in it worked. Thanks for the advice !!! Highly recommended.

My Honda CRV (55 reg.) was constantly showing disc error. Dealer fixed for free, then it played up again. I bought an "Allsop Multimedia Laser Lens Cleaner" DVD from PC World for £15.99 in May, used it for about 20 -30 seconds in the unit, and hey presto!! Two months on, the sat. nav. is still working perfectly. Will keep cleaning unit on a regular basis, as it's no problem at all, with no removal of unit.

Just completed Craig's fix. Sat Nav back in operation. Many thanks. A few notes: 2 screen screws on each side of unit. Screen unit pulls out. No cables (push fit connectors). Removing the back plate of DVD did not help me locate lens. Finally found it by removing the sprung 'clamp' in the centre of the unit (that clamps the DVD) - three components held with 1 small screw. Lens easily visible and cleanable below. Used a piece of cotton thread to hold lower part of clamp in place while replacing small screw. You could probably do this job without separating the DVD / CD or removing the screen.

Finally got round to looking at the same problem on our 2005 CRV. Removed the unit, two screws up under the air vents. Pull out trim and then four bolts retaining the unit. Pull out unit and remove several plugs.

Remove mounting plates on sides of unit and large black box hanging on these and plugged into back of unit. Removed the rear cover (about 10, screws didn't count) then lifted top off. Removed the screen, 4 screws. Seperated DVD from CD (another four screws I think). Then I may have started removing unecessary parts and you may see a better way for the next steps. Took the circuit board off the top of the DVD but this is held to the unit by ribbon cable that can't be detached. Then removed plate on back of DVD held with very small screws and springs. Did not detach springs just gently moved plate up. Then by shining a tourch in the back I could see the laser through gaps in the top of the unit (with previosly mentioned circuit board held to one side). Once the laser was found it was simple to put some cleaner on a cotton bud and reach it through the open back of the unit.

Reassemble. Then wonder why you have two screws left. Take apart again and then realise you miss counted and they were the ones that held the top on.

Any way it works perfectly now.

Hi,
I had the same problem with my 2002 model.
Reading on forums I've noticed it is a common problem.
Many people replace it or took it to repair and payed over £250.00
In my case I had to drive abroad with work for about 4weeks so I had no time to do anything about it.
I left the dvd inside the whole time.
One day towards the end of my trip the sat nav started to work again.
Just like that.
I guess it could be luck but it is worth to try.
Best of luck.
