Good advice from caine - if no volts on trigger wire when switch turned to 'start', it could be the ingition switch itself, but more likely you have a faulty safety interlock. Usually it's the brake, but the cutter deck switch is also a possibility.

suspect its type with remote solonoid.follow the thick wire from starter till u find cylindrical unit where wire bolts on,opposite to this is another wire of same gauge bolted on that then goes to bat+,bridging these with old scredriver will spin motor and confirm.a single small dia wire activates solonoid and spins motor when working.check for voltage on this wire when starting ,if present then replace solonoid .if no volts on trigger wire then fault is from switch.
