Frozen blades on riding lawn mower?

How do the blades on a riding lawn mower freeze up? I have a toro lx500.

There are only 2 things that can freeze the blades - either the blade brake is jammed (this stops the blades rotating due to belt drag when the blades are dis-engaged), or the spindle bearings have siezed. This will mean a new spindle - bearing replacement s usually a machine shop job.
