Switching off intermittently?

I have a Ariston microcombi 23/27 boiler which switches off intermittently. It appears to not ignite when cold, when I press the reset button it will run for a few days then cut out again. The gas valve has been changed, could it be a faulty flame detector ?

yes it could, or an ill positioned one
could also be a number of other faults including external controls (timeclock, stats, motor valves etc)
