How can i fix my Ford KA?

My Daughters KA (2002) 1.2 litre petrol makes a low squealing noise when she turns the steering wheel from side to side while stationary, the noise is there when turning corners as well, i suspect assisted steering but can't find anything obvious, any help would be greatly appreciated
