Hi. I tried starting my ride on mower/lawn tractor today but to no avail. The starter motor will start spinning but stops when the engine hits a point of resistance, i presume due to compression. I tried a battery booster but still no go. Would jump starting from a vehicle help? The mower has not been used for a couple of years. Any ideas welcome.
Possibly, but I wouldn't guarantee it. Take the plug out and crank the engine. Note if anything comes out the plug hole. If oil comes out, check the oil level, and check that it IS oil in the sump (as opposed to rain water, or fuel and oil due to a leaky carb).
Check the no-load battery voltage. Less than 12.6 means a dead cell. Even a booster won't compensate for this.
