How can I get sound again from my radio?

I have a peugeot 307 2002 reg and this morning there is no sound from my radio. all the stations appear and I can alter the volume but there is no sound whatsoever. The mute button is not on as I have checked that. I also tried inserted a CD but again it shows on the display as working but there is no sound
