Lockout - Thermecon oil boiler, with a Minor 1 burner?

The boiler is 9 yrs old, regularly serviced. Just started to lockout on first sartup, morning and evening. When timeclock switches boiler on, there is buzzing sound but the motor does not start. Push reset, everything starts and runs for the rest of the morning/evening without fault. Boiler was serviced in August. A new control box, ignitition transformer and solanoid coil replaced. The motor was rebuilt 18 months ago, when a new oil pump was also fitted. Also in-line oil filters changed. Everything clean in the burner chamber, including photo cell. Nearly full tank of oil. Any ideas?

No answer to this on my floor standing 60/80. Always been an issue when we have a holiday and it's cold weather. I find that if I pull the wires and nudge the motor connector it sometimes comes on. I would pay to fix it but cannot identify root cause. I pulled all apart ,bench tested sol valve etc. Thermocon could look at this and advise reliable fix.

Had the problem everybody has mentioned below. Had 2 plumbers/heating engineers out couldn't find fault. Then the expert who said need to drill hole in blast tube slightly bigger allowing more air to pass. Since then 2 years now, not any issues what so ever. Try that as unless your plumber knows they won't find it!
Hope it helps!

should of replaced the whole motor 18 months ago, which comes with a capacitor, next time don't bother trying to repair it, they don't last long!! I run a oil fired boiler service/repair company with a 3,000 client data base, at least half are thermecon's and yes they are crap!! condensers are even worse!! 'Grant' boilers are the best!!

it might be solenoid coil/valve fuel

We had the same lockout problem. Ran for 10-20 mins then lockout. Changed capacitor. All OK.

I had a same problem with a wall mounted version, try this. Open the front panel and reach towards the back. You will feel a set of wires which feed to an electronic eye. Pull the eye out and clean it with a cloth. Place back in and start... works everytime..

Our Thermecon Boiler is 9 years old and has been trouble free until this year. Started locking out for no apparent reason. Boiler engineer said usually faulty coil which goes open circuit when hot and old. changed coil, end of problem. Very happy with our boiler.

9 times out of 10 the problem is with the seals in the telescopic flue. The burner will light and the boiler will run for a while, the problem is that the oxygen in the combustion chamber is burnt and the carbon monoxide which is passed out of the flue is sucked bak past the seal into the combustion chamber. No oxygen=no ignition.

The other fault when the boilers buzz first thing in the morning is the ignition system. this runs when the boiler starts its pre ignition sequence and will run on for a while once the boiler has ignited. The locout on the initial start up is lack of oil in the majority of cases and can be cured by inserting a non return valve in the line approx 1 mtr fron the boiler

i had a thermecon boiler installed about 3 years a go. the heating firm highly reccomended a thermecon boiler singing nothing but praise for it. from the day it was installed we have had nothing but problems with what is the most expensive piece of crap i have ever had the misfortune to purchase, it locks out at least 6 times a day, in the morning theres no hot water or heating because its locked out overnight. my engineer is at a loss as to why it locks out, during its latest service he could find no fault.
thermecon more like thermeCRAP

Good evening.
I am almost sure your problem is a faulty capacitor. If you have a humming noise and then lockout this is the sign of a tired capacitor.

Try a replacement.

Cheers.

I have a Thermacon oil boiler 3 years old , had a engineer out for service and lockout problem, he took off the air pipe to the burner from the flue and he said there is to much air comming back in the flue, check and replace the seals in the flue, done that and worked for 3 days, and the same is happening can anyone help please?

Just had the same problem on my Thermecon 50/80 Wall mounted - about 9 years old, but as during winter cold start-up (sub-zero in garage where it is) it squealed for several minutes (until boiler warm) I suspect bearing failures. Am replacing motor as it provides bearings for pump and fan, even though its a major exercise/cost. Thankfully its summer when its finally given up! Haven't had any reliability problems - has worked faultlessly with routine servicing.

Now just got to replace the inadequate immersion switch which is threatening to burn the house down while I wait for a motor!

I have the same problem with the lock out . took the burner off and blew it all out with an airline. . oil runs well and cleaned fiter on pump and filter from tank . motor spins well . photo thingy clean and shiney it has to be the cap. when i took the capacitor of my washing machine once i got a real belt of power from it, a mega shock. but there was no power in the one from the boiler . there only four quid from plumcenter. im picking mine up monday so ill let you know.

We have a Thermecon 9 year old boiler that has given us nothing but trouble. Over the years we have spent £1000, then £250, then about £160 on it. Could have bought a new boiler! It locks out frequently and the engineers are never sure why. We have had new pumps, photocells, tiger loops, tank drainage. You name it. Get rid of it - we are replacing ours shortly!

remove pump see if motor spins freely if ok, rotate pump shaft see if you can feel any sticking if so, most likely pump. if both seem ok then likely to be the capacitor this is the cheapest item to replace first.

it could be the the capacitor strugglin to do it first surge to through the motor over but if your paying any one too change it i'd go for the motor as some time they stick when they have not moved all night if i was there i'd whip the pump out to make sure its not ceased holding the motor
