How can I stop my cold water storage tank from overflowing?

Would it be worth considering re-routing/extending the inlet feed pipe and fit to a new ballcock assembly positioned in a more accessable position (and blocking off the original inlet fixture)?

Than you for your suggestion but one of my problems is that I can.t get access to change the ball valve assembly as whover installed the tank put water pipes in front of the tank.There is very limited space to work and I am not able to see what I am doing so most of my adjustments are by touch.The space I have to work in is about the dimensions of the tank with about a foot above the tank and about 9 inches at the side.I have considered using a piece of wood under the ball valve arm and trying to bend the arm so that the tank does not fill up so much.Once again I appreciate your help.

The best thing to do would be to turn off the mains cold feed and then change the whole ball valve assembly in one go.Hopefully you should be able drain the tank and get access to the unions,taking the tank out if necessary so you can fit a complete new valve at your leisure.
