406 immobiliser problem?

I bought a 96 peugeot 406 in may of this year. When I got the car we were never given the code and i wan't aware the car even had one. Last saturday I had to change a fuse so after looking in the owners manual found when the fuse box was, at this piont i discovered the immobiliser, so i opened up the fuse box and changed the fuse put it back togther and thats when my problems started. I put the key in the ignition and tried to start the car i noticed a beeping noise, for some reason the immobiliser jumped into life and since then my car has been stuck on my drive way and peugeot want me to take the car to them so they can rape me for all my worldly good for a car that only cost me £200 in the first place. Is there anything that can be done or is the car destined for the great car park in the sky???
