Petrol warning light on my Renault Clio?

For the last couple of mornings, I have started my 2001 16v 1.4 Clio and after starting the fuel warning light has come on, clearing the trip data etc. After a short run, the problem doesn't reappear. It has been extremely cold the last two mornings and as the battery is original could it be telling me something?
