merc. sprinter gear selector problem?

the gear selector on my sprinter 313 cdi was stiff for a few weeks then when i tried changing gear it became loose moving freely and the van is stuck in gear. can anybody please help!

Yes same thing happened to me on my 316 cdi.Sure enough one cable had snapped at gearbox side.Gear change before this was a bit stiff.

Sounds like you need new gear cables.
They might have just popped off at the gearbox end but if they were stiff before hand then the chances are they've broken where they go into the gearstick.
