how to put my pedal on my brother machine back together?

My brother machine on some ocassion would sew very fast, while cleaning i picked the pedal up from the floor & heard a sound like a screw loose.So I open it up and there is a metal peice out of place. It looks like it gose over a spring.Do you have an general Idea of what the inside a brother machine without any special features could look like.

Hello Jenni,
Are you sure it is a metal piece and not part of the suppressor that looks like a big silver fuse, if the machine was running fast at one point that could have been the problem, is the machine running okay now, whilst you have the foot control open discard the suppressor.
