Exactly the same issues. The TV (32C3030D) was switch on yesterday for the first time in ages. Worked fine all day but this morning DTV just has a blank display. Menus stay on screen just for a second.

Rang the number below with hope but answer message says that telephone support has been discontinued.

Ive emailed Toshiba at Toshiba_Tv_Support at toshiba-teg.com as directed in the message.

fingers crossed

I have the same issue. I phoned Toshiba and spoke to Daniel who was really helpful, he is sending me out the firmware free of charge which he is sure will fix my TV. That's £700 odd saved on a new TV.

Guess my next TV will be Toshiba again, brilliant customer support.

I had a similar problem with my Regza 37X3030DB tv I bought 9 years ago, only ever used it for Sky tv until recently when I discovered digital was gone .. It is now October 2017 , and as I am many years out off warranty I
was just going to buy another TV , but just by chance I come across this post .. very good for me.
I contacted Toshiba UK: + 44 333 227111, and thought nothing to loose , give it a shot , and to my surprise spoke to very helpful customer support , not often you can say that in 2017, no problem , no issue , a smart card was sent to me with in a day with enclosed easy to understand instructions ,which was power off tv , plug in card , start tv , leave for a few minutes, turn off tv , remove plugin card and thats it ..
TV working like new , all digital capability restored ..
When you have uploaded the new updated firm ware to the TV you have to return the smart card back to Toshiba, but incredibly they enclose a prepaid padded addressed envelope
for this purpose .. that is going the extra mile ..
Amazing .. saved me the cost of a replacement TV.. Super ..
Top marks to Toshiba , I would have no issue to buy toshiba products in future as I was so impressed with the product support and customer service which is second to none ..
Well done Toshiba ..an example to all other electronics manufacturers .. Thank you Toshiba..

Oct 17 I have just done same as Michael above with old regza 32c3030d. I couldnt get into the menu and it had lost all the channels.
I rang them on 0333 222 7111 and they sent out the card. arrived next day and everything back up and running no problem. i have just bought a new toshiba 43" which is great and £100 cheaper than nearest competition.
Well done Toshiba

Just to confirm it is Oct 2017 and Toshiba support are still providing the update card to flash the firmware on old Regza models to cure this problem, I rang them on 0333 222 7111 and the pleasant chap I spoke to knew the issue straight away and advised they would send the card out to me asap.

As with other answers, a really quick and easy fix by phoning Toshiba Support 03332227111. Explained symptoms confirming the Freeview tuner has stopped working. They sent a 'flash card' and adaptor by 1st class post arrived next day complete with very simple instructions. Inserted card into slot at rear of TV. In three minutes my 9 yrs old 32ins (32C3030DB) TV was working perfectly. Part of the deal is that you post the flash card back in the prepaid envelope.
Amazing service from Toshiba!

A positive result like others have had; a quick call to 0333 222 7111; give the model & serial number and an upgrade card arrived the next day.

Plug the card into the back of the TV and the problem is fixed in two minutes.

Excellent customer server from Toshiba, my TV must be 9 years old. When I come to replace it I'll certainly get another Tosh.

As the previous posts - a 5 min call to the 0333 number (have the model & serial number ready), upgrade card through the letter box next morning, follow the easy instructions, everything back to normal - brilliant!!

This was a remarkable "customer service" experience from Toshiba on a TV thats just over 8 years old and the fix didn't cost anything other than the price of a telephone call. A credit to the company.

we have the same problem with our DTV - no signal - what's a firmware upgrade card? does this need to be inserted into the TV. Our TV doesn't have a 'slot' to insert a card. Will try the 'bashing the OK button' method later

The bash the button fix worked for me, atv button greyed out but never use it in any event

Just the same as all the rest, Had no freeview. Phoned the number.
Gave my name, address and model number. Took five minutes on the phone. Two days later, I received a PCI card. Five minutes later I had freeview. Have to send the card back in the pre-paid envelope.
THANK YOU TOSHIBA.

Had the same issue. TV lost the freeview channels. As per the other posts here contacted Toshiba (01932 841600) who sent out a firmware update card the same day. Easy to follow instructions included. TV up and running again within five minutes.

Brilliant service from Toshiba......and all free of charge

I had the same problem, no freeview tuner and unable to access menu, tried removing power for 48 hours, no luck. 2 months later I had to compleatly disconect the tv to decorate the room, on reconecting the tv the freeview was back working and the menu was also back. Poor internal connection or what?

Hi,

Just wanted to post an update on here. We had exactly the same problem and I found this forum after spending £95 to have the TV repaired (they replaced the digital panel which I later discovered needn't have been replaced). This fixed the problem for 2 weeks and then the same issue recurred! Obviously I pursued a refund and then rang Toshiba on 01932 841600. They were extremely helpful and posted the update card the same day which arrived the following day! TV now working again!

Needless to say I am really pleased with their customer service so would recommend this to others if you have experienced the same technical issue.

I had exactly the same issue with the freeviev. Rang the number posted earlier in this thread and I have to admit the technical help team were falling over themselves to help. Firmware upgrade in the post.

Thanks to Tony for the phone number which is still valid as of 30th August 2013

Toshiba Technical Help Line 01932 841600

They also told me that if I ever wanted a New TV to give them a call or check their web site before going to any high street shop as they would offer existing customers a discount.

Thanks again all that contributed to this thread

Just another rave review for Toshiba service and a thanks to this page for pointing me in the right direction. Had the same problem on my 42z3030d and one call to 01932841600 and they sent a firmware update card straight out. Got it two days later and 3mins after that the DTV tuner was working again.

Put the card back to them in the post today in a pre-paid pack. Shame that the tuner seems to have an issue but the customer service is some of the best I have seen.

Fixed in less than 24 hrs, I Rang Toshiba on 01932841600 and negotiated the voice menu system, the call took less than five mins. The TV Firmware Upgrade (TV-CC04) card was sent with instructions as mentioned by Mark Routledge in Dec 2012 and then today it arrived it took another 5 mins very easy to follow instructions and it's done. Well done Toshiba!!

So I had this problem and Toshiba sent out the firmware upgrade.
I followed the instructions - TV on standby, insert card, turn TV on - but nothing happens.
It is meant to have no picture and say "updating", but instead the TV just turns on as normal.

Any ideas anybody?

Had same symtoms with my Regza C3030. Waited 5 mins on telephone and excellent Toshiba representative could not have been more helpfull. Same problem as others: DTV part inoperable with a black screen, except for a brief flash of a menu each time the menu remote key pressed and held for a couple of seconds. Rang 01932841600 and negotiated the voice menu system, was advised that all the staff were busy but that they should get to me in 7 minutes time - nice to actually get a target time - then they came on-line much quicker than estimate. Helpful conversation ensued and a returnable flash upgrade/repair should be winging it's way to me "within seven working days". Toshiba seems to have a brilliant Customer Service performance from what I have seen so far, especially for a second-hand, out of warranty product, if only other manufacturers could take a leaf out of this company's books. Hopefully by this time next week I'll know whether this'll fix the problem - if not, like Arnie, "I'll be back..."- to say so!

Had similar problem where the manufacturer firmware failed to update or was corrupted during the process (probably a freeview data download) on the 37x3030d. Spoke to Toshiba and they were excellent, they're sending me a card kit that allows the firmware to be updated. The flash card kit needs to be returned to Toshiba, in the meantime reverted to using the old digi box via SCART.

I rang Toshiba ref the recent switchover to digital. Have a small TV in the kitchen a 23W330DB which has a digital tuner built in which we have been using for approx 3 years. Up comes the switch over and bang no more TV . The set up menu does not allow DTV to be accessed so i rang toshiba. when i mentioned the problem and age they basical said not muuch they can do. When i said i have bought a digital TV which cant use for digital they said not much thet can do and refered me to the consumer complanits comission as i believe the TV was not fit for purpose. So Toshiba 1 out of 10 from you and i will keep to Samsung in the future as their upgrade worked fine on my other TV.

April 2012
Have had the same problem for the last couple of days (since the re-tuning day on 4th Apr)...the MENU flashes on the screen for a split second. Not long enough to do anything. It seems it's a digital corruption due to the change of signal. Toshiba are sending me a Firmware card (not sure of the spelling) which I must load into the back of the TV (and then post the card back to them). Can then re-tune and all will be well. Watch this space!!!!

Carmella
April 2012
Ditto. I expect there may be a rash of these during the switchover! 10 minutes waiting on a premium line and a day for the card to arrive isn't too bad I suppose but irritating nonetheless if it's a known issue.

Hi all, Yes same situation for my mother in laws 19 inch combi.Comet werent interested as it was over year old and told her she was better to bin it and buy another set. I was raging and so I googled the model myself and searched for any reported freeview faults.I then sent email to Toshiba with links to all forums where the fault was being discussed.Credit to Toshiba as they got in touch, picked up set and repaired free of charge.
Not impressed with Comet's attitude though and have e-mailed their director to let him know.

I just spoke to Toshiba customer services- I was told that my region won't be able to pick up free view until 2011/ 2012 because it has'nt been enabled for us to switch over fully yet. The customer service person then said we have all cahnnels down here in Devon- nice. I bought a t.v recently with free view built in specificly- I feel that government and tv companies both knew that these issues would occur but like most money hungry self concerned individuals they left consumers in the dark (tv companies) and chose areas (government) they were most affiliated with to recieve less hassle/ better services.

I own a 37X3030DB and have got the same problem, i thought it was the recent thunder storm, but thanks to people on here I have now rang Toshiba and spoken to Matt on option 2, he has given me a reference number to quote to a repair firm, chosen by them, who should be ringing within the next 3 working days to get repairs done free of charge. Toshiba are fully aware of this software issue so they have no quibble with free repairs, my Tv is 3yrs old in November so has no guarantee, so hopefully good result all round.

My 37X3030D suddenly stopped working on the morning of the start of the World Cup! Apparently it is something to do with the region by region switch over to full digital transmission.

update=got through today and they said that a BT engineer had cut there telephone lines outside their callcentre (those pesky openreach engineers strike again!), anyway was booked in for free repair (firmware update), and am expecting a callback. have had the tv for just under 2 years now and out of warranty

i found this on the italian toshiba website that sheds some light on these issues, its a notice on the main page:
'CONSUMER ELECTRONICS GROUP

Dear Associates,
with reference to terrestrial TV signals transmitted in digital technology, some manufacturers have reported strong
issues (evident particularly in the areas of switch-over and switch-off) resulting from the presence in
air television signals that affect the abnormal functioning of devices with

Given this situation, many consumers mistakenly led to believe that the
malfunction is caused by a technical problem of the receiver are returned as faulty the
products to retail outlets at which they were purchased, creating considerable damage in terms
economic and image producers.

possibly with competent institutions so that the matter be resolved as
quickly as possible.

We will inform you about developments.

Update to entry 25.1.09.

Toshiba Repairman arranged by Toshiba Technical Help Line called today. Fixed the TV in about 30 seconds by plugging in a simple update card. They rang me this morning to say they were coming, arrived when they said they would and turned me into a very happy Chicken!!
No Charge at all. Free Gratis by Toshiba. TV is 2 years old (just) and out of Warranty. Said by Toshiba to be repaired as a " good will gesture "...can't argue with that!!

Today 25.11.09 I got exactly the same problem on my TV Model No37C3030D. Blank screen when switching to DTV and a one second appearance of the Menu Page. Rang Toshiba on 08448560730 Option 2, Technical Support. Spoke to a delightfully helpful young lady called Charlotte who confirmed that it is now a known fault on this particular model requiring a software upgrade to cure. She gave me a reference number and said they will contact a local Toshiba repair man who would ring me, do the upgrade (5mins work) and no charge would be made. She asked for model number, serial number, date and place of purchase etc. Brilliant service so far..........just hope now that the repair man calls my number Ha Ha

You should not have to pay for this, Freeview should work and is free. The fact it cant handle the extra channels should be fixed by them free of charge. The guy will come round and plug a card into the back of urr tv, it will say software updating..takes 5 minutes to do. £55 + VAT wot a rip off.

January 2009
Hi Nicole,

You do not need an extended warranty, Toshiba are aware of this problem and it is a software upgrade required in order to get freeview working again, If you ring any toshiba authorised repair centre, I spoke to DJ electronics in Walsall they will tell you the same. You have to ring Toshiba tell them you have spoken to a repair centre and they will give you a reference number which is required by the repair centre and they will come out and fix for free.

Hi,

I have had this problem sorted now. If you ring Toshiba and tell them the problem, they will give you a reference number. Quote this to a authorised Toshiba repair centre and they will come out and do the required software upgrade.

Hi Mate, any joy in getting this working?

I am experiencing exactly the same thing, since xmas time has been doing it, just flickers on a blank screen and when you press menu it dissapears before u can do anything.

I have purchased Play TV for the PS3 and that works fine, which means the problem is definitley with built in Tuner on the Toshiba 37X3030DB.
