Samsung PPM63H3 black area of screen?

My Samsung PPM63H3 has suddenly developed a fault. When I switched it on yesterday I heard a small pop and then it smelt of warm electrics. The picture on the screen illuminated then just a small 18" square area at the lower right corner went off. It is completely black as though no power is being sent to the screen in that area. The remainder of the screen is working fine and the picture is razor sharp everywhere else apart from this unlit area. All the other functions of the TV work OK. I heard it may be the main video board but am confused as surely this would affect the whole screen and not just a small area. Does anyone have any ideas?
