Just a quick comment Nobby. 'testing without filters' is not really here not there. The filters are there to stop the telephony circuit interfering with the ADSL. Unless someone used the phone you won't see any difference.

I think that you post has proved my point in that 'connection was same at times crap but mostly ok.'. You may be getting way with it but I have given a professional opinion not to do what yo uare doing.

I have BT broadband on a long, long extension with relevant filters so I can use the phone as normal while on the internet with the computer. No probs with speed, tested without filters and connection was same at times crap but mostly ok.
Most if not all internet connection contracts are alleged to state before the speed figure those two most common magic words of advertising, they are 'UP' and 'TO'
In short they can't guarantee the speed. I've read of many complaints about this.

If you mean using a telephone extension wire? You could but I would not recommend it. Domestic dwellings are notoriously 'dirty' in terms of Electro Magnetic Interference. That cable would probably pick up so much interference it would slow your Broadband down.

Far better to use a Cat5 cable (really cheap off EBay). Or if you don't want trailing wires search the web about Homeplugs. They work really well.
