How do we choose bay window poles?

What is the best solution for fixing curtains in our 5 sided bay window (typical 1930s)? Our ancient pelemeted track is on its last legs and needs replacing.

We have seen one 28mm system with knuckle joints and another with a bendy tube joint. Also, are returns outside the bay a good idea?
