ford fiesta flame 05' conked out whilst moving?

hi, could someone help me. the car was jerking asthough it was low on fuel but it wasnt. next minute it just stopped in the middle of the road. it turns ova asthough it wants to start, but sounds like there is no petrol in. so i put more in but still the same, any suggestions please?
