How can I clean the door seal of my washing machine?

The door seal of my Zanussi washer has a really stubborn build up of a black mould like substance. I have tried bleach and several commercial cleaning products but can't find anything to shift it. I have heard that this is a result of using liquid detergent rather than powder - Any suggestions gratefully received - Thanks
