Lost key;how do I remove the barrel from a pvc door lock? ?

My garage door has a manual lock that has been in the lock position and I don't have a key. The lady that I bought the house from, had Sears install a remote garage door opener they covered the holes where the metal rods go into the sides of the door frame. So I guess she locked it 'open' to keep the rods from scraping the metal. Of course now the garage door motor just buzzes but does not move the chain at all. We were going to lock the garage door and bought a new twist lock. Now I can't get the lock to fit in the hole because of the way it seats in the whole is different. I took the old one to Lowe's and Home Depote and have been told the good ole', "They don't makum like that anymore." Any suggestions about the lock or the garage opener????? Anything... PLEASE...

I have the same problem, the back d/glazed door is locked shut and the key snapped off!! I did try drilling through with an ordinary metal drill bit and it only went in about an inch with me putting loads of pressure on so after about an hour I gave up! I really need to get the barrel out and the door open so will have another go, but just needed to ask what is an HSS drill bit? and do you have to drill all the way through the barrel (its about 3 inches long?) Any help is greatly appreciated.

no it has a locking hub in the middle of the barrel which is offset when no key is in the barrel thus unable to be removed
as you have no key you will need to drill out the barrel and replace it

DRILLOUT LOCK JUST BENEATH WHERE THE KEY FITS WITH 8MM HSS DRILL BIT YOU SHOULD HIT 5 PINS OR TUMBLERS ONCE YOU HAVE TAP THE LOCK BARREL UNTIL TUMBLERS DROP OUT THEN INSERT ANY KEY OR A THIN SCREWDRIVER THEN TURN TO OPEN THE DOOR LOCK AS YOU WOULD WITH THE NORMAL KEY.ONCE THE DOOR IS OPEN REMOVE THE BARREL SCREW THEN SLIDE OUT THE BARREL.

you will need to put all screws back drill out 4m hss drill then 6m then 8m until the tumblers are out

if the barrel is in the locked position you will need to drill the barrel out to drop the tumblers
