How can I fix my Sears rider model number 917.273820?

Once blade lever is engaged, it takes sometimes 2-5 minutes for the blade to actually engage.

Sounds like the blade belt is worn out or the belt tensioner is slow to engage .....mine did the same thing and I lubed the belt tensioner and everything is fine now
