How to make sound louder?

Hi. i have purchased a Logik dvd player. model no,LPD850, it did not come with instructions, it plays fine, but sound is not very loud, with or without headphones, is there anything i can do to make it louder, and please can you tell me what P-Scan is..sorry to sound so dumb.
