Dell Keyboard Problems?

HI. My daughter has a two year old Dell laptop. Whilst in the middle of typing, all the keys stopped working and made a dull electronic beep when pressed. We logged out, logged in again as another user and the keyboard worked!! But the keyboard still malfunctions when logged in as my daughter. I am a complete novice when it comes to things like this and would appreciate any help.
