How can I fix my dell d600 laptop?

my laptop will not turn on, the light on the power pack is on when its plugged into the wall but as soon as i plug it into the laptop the light goes off, i took it to pc world and they said its not the power pack its something like the power pack on the mother board, something like that anyway, can anyone help!?
