modena 102 combi flame failure?

this boiler is 10 years old and now the flame fails on a reqular basis whether using HW or CH. The fan has been replaced and also, what I believe is the gas pressure switch, by a corgi engineer who said the boiler was in excellent condition. It will go days with no problems then fail continually again. Any suggestions as I have now spent £200 on it to no avail.

Cleaned safety overheat and CH flow limit thermostats (much chalk like material on them) also repaired room seal on cover, put all back and working fine since

Ah well this is ignition lockout. Intermittant ignition lockout is a pain in the arse at the best of times! because the fault isn't showing itself very often, it's very difficult to trace. It could be lots of things. i'd check all gas pressures are correct and check electrodes/leads. after these checks, it may just be best endevour. personally, i'd wait till the fault gets worse so it's easier to trace. a little awkward, but it beats replacing costly parts blindly.

The red light is solid and yes it resets OK

It's a bit vague to just say the flame fails. have you got any further info? like what are the lights on the front of the boiler doing when the boiler is at fault. is there a red light flashing? or is the red light solid? etc.... The temp sensors are prone to failing and causing intermittant faults. If the boiler resets ok after it fails there's probably no point testing the sensors themselves so i'd just change them. They are about £17 each and you'll need two of them. hope that helps!
