Dishwasher?

My door spring or springs have broken on my DW920 dishwasher. How do you replace them? Thanks

The springs you need are Part code 521565P, Service kit DW spring hinge (2). There are two springs in each kit, and the retailer who sold you the machine should be able to get them for you.

Before you start, download the Fisher & Paykel Parts Manual for the DW820 and DW920, manual number 599069. Look at the Tub Assembly diagram, page 6 and find the screws (15) that retain the front panel (31 - 33) immediately below the door. This is the way into the machine.

Turn off the power to the machine. Pull it out and undo the screws (15), disconnect the earth lead to the panel (32) and put the panel aside. Then unclip the supports (34) for the next panel (35) and slide the panel up so that the retaining clips (36) reach the top of the slots in the main frame. There is an enlargement in the slots that allows the clips (36) to come out. Again, disconnect the earth lead and put the panel aside.

Find the screws under the seal (12) that hold the surround to the chassis at the front. There are two more screws (1) at the bottom of the chassis. Remove these screws as well. Do the same for the back panel, but do not remove the surround. Rather, gently pull the sides of the surround away from the bottom of the chassis far enough to get your hand in from the front. You should be able to see the springs on each side at the front near the bottom of the chassis. One or both of these springs will be broken.

Remove the old springs. I found it easier to remove the intact spring (only one was broken) from the bottom first, then the top.

Assembly is the reverse order of disassembly. Fit the new springs top first, then bottom. Watch that the seals don't get caught between the chassis and the surround as you refit the surround. Also, make sure that the earth leads are firmly in place on each panel as you put the panels on, and that the leads and connections are in good condition.
