why is my cistern leaking from back nut of flush syphon?

went to change flooring, when lifted old flooring, found damp, wet boards. found drip from top of back nut and low porcelain/ceramic cistern base. changed flush syphon. Still leaked. realised not sitting in cistern correctly, undid all pipes, realigned, still leaked, tried sealant, left for 36hrs, still leaked, undid all, cleaned and dried everything, put syphon back in without connecting to flush pipe, just to see if it sat right, did up back nut, STILL LEAKED... HELP!!

Thank you Mr K, did that, still leaking. I think the inside base of cistern is not completely flat. I am fed up of trying everything logical. I'm going to buy a new cistern, a lot easier, and that old one must have been slowly leaking for years! Thank you anyway.

Washer beneth syphon black rubber not sealing to cistern base, apply silicone to base of cistern inside before tighting back nut, do not overtight. let it dry before filling, you can also fill gap between syphon thread and cistern with silicone before tighting back nut. other see if syphon is not cracked. good luck.
