Positec tel. number has changed to 01256 698 040 (can also use 0845 202 9679). They directed me to the www.gr8spares.co.uk website mentioned perviously in this post.
I have priced up cells and it would cost about £40 to open the battery pack and replace them with 2.2Ah cells (as opposed to the 1.7Ah supplied originally). A new 24V drill from Argos is £99.99 with two batteries and a 3 year warranty, so replacing or repairing the barreries in not looking worthwhile. With prices like that, so much for reducing waste eh?
