renault scenic automatic gearbox problem?

ive got a megane scenic fidji when doing 50 mph the kick down comes into play and doesnt go back into top gear and rev's are at 4000.when i stop it seems that it doesnt have any other gears just the 1 from pulling away

If you have an AD4 or AD8 transmission you probably have an issue with the clutch which is on in 12&3 You can confirm this by getting speed up into overdrive then kicking down. It shouldn't raise up the revs before biting third (flaring) To identify your box easily, the above have a filler tube and rubber bung. you may have a DPO or ZF box these have a pan to the front of the trans. The DPO has a black range switch on the top of box where selector cable fits. ZF has an alloy/plastic switch by bell housing to upper left of front cover. The symptoms you describe do not seem to match normal ones for these 2 boxes

my understanding of any auto boxes is this
1) keep the auto fluid topped up, usually RED stuff TQF
2) change the fluid regular, BROWN/BLACK is BURNT find the cause
3)at a service have the bands adjusted to compensate for wear.check and clean out the gearbox pickup gauge filter
