Why did my airbag light stay on in my Ford KA 1997?

I had been driving on a diversion road which was a bit rough and then I was driving a bit quick for a few minutes on a newly paved bit of road and then I drove on to grass to park my car at RHS Hyde Gardens in Essex and when we turned the car back on after an hour or two the airbag light in my ford ka 1997 came on - is this anything to worry about? later in the day i turned my car on again to drive it and the airbag light stayed on a little bit longer than usual but went off - any ideas ? only time its been like this

so (apart from if I crash and dont have an airbag!) its nothing to worry about? thanks k

The airbag light should come on for 3 ~ 5 seconds when ignition turned on then go out, if it does'nt go out, it means a fault is logged into the airbag control unit, and in the event of a crash the airbag system might not deploy correctly (not a MOT fail item!)
