Noisey Toilet (air lock?)?

When our downstairs toliet is flushed there is a loud (VERY LOUD) fog horn sound. It doesn't do it every time but most. The only way for it to stop is to wait until it's finished or turn on one of the cold taps in the toilet or kitchen. To give you an idea of the sound, imagine the Titanic coming in to dock!! It could be some kind of air lock. The upstairs toilets work ok.

Appreciate any ideas to fix this as it's driving us all nuts. I've tried putting the water off at the mains and trying to "clear" it but that didn't work.

I have installed a new toliet valve by following instrux and the water keeps going on and off after the water level is attained. The excess water from the valve flowing to the tube is above the water line and there is no loose fittings. How do i fix? This is a one piece toilet.

I talked to the vendor who sold me the valve and he gave me these directions. "Shut the water to the tank off, take the top of the filler valve assembly off (3 screws) and place a glass upside down. Then turn the water on and flush the filler assembly (the glass deflects the incoming water intothe tank). turn the water off and re-assemble the top of the valve to the filler assembly. Done).
I follwed the directions and it has been since the last time I posted and not a sound has been emitted from the toilet. Why this process works, I haven't a clue but it did.

Fill valve, float valve, ball cock valve are all the same valve..the stem that is pushed down onto the fill tube as the float rises and its buoyancy creates the downward force due to the fulcrum that the float and valve are on. As I removed the 3 screws and removed the old fill stem (which carries the rubber button), I noticed that the o-ring is a looser fit on the new stem versus the old one. Since I am only after the rubber button, I plan to remove it from the new stem and install it on the old stem and re-installing the old stem in the assembly. This would factor out the o-ring from the button letting me reduce the number of probable causes. The only other gasket is the larger one that seals the assembly as it is placed onto the fill tbe assembly and the 3 screws are applied.
As far as the howling happening as it did 5:12am, this morning, I can only think that the flapper may be letting a very minute rate of water pass into the bowl and after a long while, the float drops to the point that the valve becomes slightly ajar and passes water setting up the vibration.

Sorry fellows but I have the same problem and it started immediately after installing a new fill valve. The old valve (which is nothing more than a rubber pad that is pushed onto the fill tube as the float height increases) was leaking of which I could hear the faint hissing sound of water passing it. So, I installed a new (Kohler) valve stem which contains the seat and it immediately stopped the water seepage but I started to have that horn sound (due to a vibration of the fill assembly) if a cold water faucet was turned on or another toilet flushed. A new part and it created the noise.

the problem is the float valve in the cistern. Try fitting a new washer, if that doesnt fix it a new float valve is an easy job and will stop the problem.
