How to install a restring kit on a GE dryer

Mary

Get the restring kit and DO NOT WORRY. I have done it and you do have to be careful that you do not stretch the elements out too much. Consider that at $30 vs. $130 for the whole assembly you can afford to buy another kit a couple of times if you make a mistake. The procedure requires taking the front of the dryer off, the top up and the drum out. Do yourself a favor and buy a new belt as well, while you are in there you might as well for the ~$12.

I am having the same problem with the same model. I inspected the vents and found them to be clear and the blower motor undamaged and functioning well. Based on a few other web sites, I believe the problem is related to having 1 of the 2 heating elements broken. You may be able to 'get by' for a while by turning the 'fabric care' knob to 'reg. heat', but it will still take a long time to dry. I contacted my local appliance spare part store, and was advised to replace the entire heating element assembly, PN EW11M23, instead of 'restringing' the heating elements with the 'restring kit'. (For reference, the restring kit is PN WE11X1007.) Apparently the restring kits are tricky to install correctly, and incorrect installation almost always end with having to repeat the repair. (The cost of the restring kit is ~$30 and the module is ~
$115.) Regarding disassembly of the dryer: it won't be easy. You will have to remove the top of the dryer, and remove the clothes drum from the front. I just poured a cup of coffee and am preparing to take my dryer apart now. I will post an update when I am finished. Wish me luck! SF

Hello,

First thing you want to do on a dryer with low is make sure the vent is not clogged with lint. Disconnect the vent from the back of the dryer and try to dry a load with no vent attached.
