Renault Megane 97 poss immobiliser fault?

Hi, I own a 97 Megane. Been running fine since I got it. Yesterday I got back to the car to find that the key fob wont unlock the car. Did it manually instead. Once inside I noticed that there were no lights on the dash (usually the immobiliser light is flashing). tried the fob again in close proximity to the sensor, nothing happened. tried starting the car, tries to turn over but nothing happening. Breakdown assistance were unable to solve the problem, after checking various fuses and wires, and the battery. We're somewhat flummoxed as the hazards, internal locking device, wipers and indicators are not working either. (Radio and head lights work, and the passenger side elec window.)

Can anyone suggest anything? PLEEEEAAASSEE??
