Mend Brother XL5130 Sewing Thick Material

Timing off on Brother XL5130?

I was sewing some thick stretchy material on my Brother XL5130 and the needle broke off. When I replaced the new needle it will no longer thread bobbin and the needle hits the casing below, bending every needle I put in. Can this be a self repair or do I have to take to a professional?
