clear paper jam msg will not go away?

Had paper jam, cleared it then display said 'clear paper jam then press (check symbol)'. Well I did that, and the msg still remains. Have turned the unit off, unplugged it, checked for anything unusual, and still the msg keeps coming up! Paper jam was caused by more than one piece of paper being pulled into printer. Tried all help topics in program files, and nothing has helped. Can u help me?
