are you sure it's starter at fault? have you checked engine earth lead for good/clean connections [place one jump lead on negative on battery and connect other to clean metal part of engine-if still faulty then check main lead of starter motor for good connection where lug is crimped to lead [will possibly get hot when trying to start] also are you using correct grade of engine oil,is battery the correct amp/hour for your model of van?

it is possible unless the motor is'nt too badly worn remove the motor and clean it up with white spirit remove all the dirt and grease check if the bendix is moving freely by moving it up and down if not use an old paint brush to clean it up with spirit never use oil on the bendix because it picks up dirt slows the bendix from engaging with the fly wheel you can also check the brushes but you will need to remove the back cover and you have to prize the brushes from the armutor very carfully if they are badly worn they will need replacing if they are ok then clean them up with spirit remove all the dirt also clean the armutor with very fine sand paper to give a good contact for the brushes when finished put all back together if the motor is still sluggish then the field coil windings are burning out and you will need to buy a new starter or a recon.
