Can my tv be fixed after a magnet touched the screen?

My daughter touched my tv with a magnet and now there is a discoloration on the screen. Is there anyway that this can be fixed?

your degaussing circuit in your tv should take care of this problem as you turn on and off your tv in 20 min. intervolts. if it does not then that circuit is not working...... an ac moter will fix this problem in a pinch.... use a fan motor from a bathroom exhaust vent and plug it in while tv is on
then in circles move the motor from close to farther away till 2 feet. i am an electronic tech. and a do this all the time and it works...

Well it was hard to believe after all these years of my kids putting magnetic objects on or next to the t.v.'s, and leaving green or purple blotches that I could fix it,
but I did last night! My son put a surround sound speaker up next to the t.v., and that evening there was a big green blotch in corner of t.v., and I said oh no! The speaker has a magnet in it didn't you know that, and no he did not. So I followed intructions on walking up to t.v. rotating the magnet pointing at that area in a circular motion, and pulled back with it, and I pulled off to the side with it real quick, and low and behold after about 10-15 times, and turning t.v. off, and back on the green was completely gone, and know I will try on the other t.v.s in the house, and see if I can fix them also. I am sooooo glad it worked!

*** THIS DOES NOT WORK ON LCD OR PLASMA SCREENS!***

i had a light green spot at the top of the screen and a purple spot a little off center on my little to the right from accidentally touching a magnet to the screen. i duct taped two magnets (the same ones that touched the screen, same strength) to my drill, and on high speed, passed back and forth over the entire screen about 3 inches away from it. i had to do it several times. i was a bit timid at first then got bolder when i saw nothing bad happened and it did not get worse. i went from side to side then circled a few times. DON'T STOP MOVING THE MAGNETS! i then pulled away from the center. i had to do this prodcure a few times. after the 5th time, the screen was back to normal. the light green spot at the top of the screen and a purple spot a little off center, to the right, was GONE!...it was awesome! my daughter was amazed as was i.

i think if i had a nice new big expensive TV, i would call a repairman...i had a little 13" color/dvd that cost me $89. after reading all the successes with this treatment and watching a video of someone doing it, i tried it myself.

i love the internet...all the answers are at your fingertips!

I've just tried the mentioned technique with a strong magnet in fluid spiral movements on the TV. I did exactly as prescribed though it didn't work optimal, even after severel try's.

I had a problem where the left side of the screen was blue and the right yellow. After using the spiral-method i still had some blue and some yellow. Finally i got all the blue away but the yellow got stronger (obviously because left and right are different poles on the tv).

This is how i removed the final yellow marks:
I folded my hand around the magnet and then made cirkular and fast movements towards the mark. Like if i was to hit the tv with my fist. I touched the tv with my hand to make sure the magnet got very close and then removed it instantly and the mark disapeared. I noticed that, the slower i did it the less effect.

By the way, thanks for the supplied method Yusef

If you dont get rid of the coloured patch within a month or so of normal on/off use . It is possible that the de-gaussing system built into the TV has failed. Degaussing only works when the TV is switched on from cold, and is usually accompanied by a resonating 'wang' sort of noise when the tv is switched on, the noise decays to nothing within a second or two.
If it does not go away get it repaired professionally as there can be a lot of current flowing in this circuit, and it can be dangerous.

If you haven't corrected your problem already you could try this.
you need a very strong magnet, switch your TV on and taking the magnet in your hand hold it to one corner of the TV screen, don't worry if you see the colours starting to be pulled towards the magnet, it will get corrected.
now this has to be done in a fluent and continues motion.

as mentioned start from one corner of the screen but don't touch it with the Magnet, now you need to run the Magnet all the way around the screen in a circular fashion starting at the edges and as you are circuling you move in towards the middle of the screen, in a spiral fashion.
so you circle the screen round and round and as you approach the centre of the screen you pull back your hand and come away from the screen until the magnet is no longer affecting the screen.( but don't pull away to fast, keep the same fluent movement).
you see what is happenning is you are resetting the screens own magnetic force. each TV has a coil called a deguasing circuit this keeps all the colours in place and balanced so what you do is disrupt that for a moment until you release then the circuit takes over again, and eveything goes back to normal.
if it doesn't work the first time you can repeat the process, but if it is still not working this could be from two factors.
1- The Magnet is not strong enough
2- you are not doing it correctly in a smooth flowing continues action.

the only other way is to take it to a TV engineer who will have a Deguasing coil, its an Electric magnetic which is strong and he will do exactly what i have explained you.

ps: oh and after you finish keep the magnet away from the TV.

hope this helps good luck

Peacemaker is correct.... Just leave it and every time you switch your TV on it will help to restore the picture to normal. It may take a week or so but DON'T put a magnet near it upside down or not again!

Usually u can just leave it and after awhile the colour will return aprrox a month or so.

this happened to my bosses tv i think she said she turned the magnet over on the spot and it reversed the effect you dont have to touch the screen just put it near the spot upside down and it will reverse the effect
