Clock going tick-tick not tick-tock?

I have a grandfather's clock that was made by my Uncle and has sat in the same space for nearly 20 years. It stopped ticking several months ago and I tried to level it (using a small level) and instead of going "tick-tock" it went "tick-tick". When I finally got the clock to tick correctly, the top part of the clock was almost at a 45 degree angle from the floor. What happened? Nothing has changed in the 20 years it sat at the same spot.

Somewhere along the line the clock has been knocked out of beat. This can happen if the weights accidentally hit the pendulum when they are being raised. The clock case needs to be leveled and then you move the crutch (that pushes the pendulum) slightly to the right or left to put the clock back into beat. This is very easy and you can find diagrams on the web to help you.
