Can you fix/replace a kitchenaid blender blade assembly?

The metal gear at the bottom of the kitchenaid blender jar rotates, but does not turn the blades inside the jar. Can this be fixed or do you have to replace the entire blender jar?

I put a dab of the epoxy called JB Weld on the bottom of the assembly, which anchored the outside part to the inside; now both spin together. Recommend using JB Weld only - has extreme holding power; can find it in most hardware stores in the US for less than $10

You can replace the blade assembly itself only (part number 9704291) for all KSB3, KSB5 and 5KSB5 models. The only one I could find in the UK was on ebay for £24.99 plus £3.50 delivery!!!!!!!!!!! . Only $15 in the US. Or if you are lucky like me, I picked up a spare jar from a car boot sale for £3.... :)
